Everybody wants their website to look amazing, to represent their brand and tie in with their brand colours, but it’s not all about aesthetics unfortunately. Your website may be picture perfect with flawless visuals, appealing colours and relevant content, however these alone won’t get you very far. To keep up to date with the desires and needs of your current and potential customers, your website needs to meet their increasingly high demands.
If you recognise any of the symptoms below, your website is in need of an update.
High bounce rate
Slow page load speed
Your brand has advanced but your site hasn’t
It’s difficult to navigate
Conversion rates are low
Your site’s been in the company longer than most of the staff
You need an expert to update content
You feel like a change
High Bounce Rate
If you’re not familiar with this term, you should be! Bounce rate is calculated when someone visits a single page on your website and does nothing on the page before leaving. A website’s bounce rate measures how many visitors leave a page without performing a specific action, such as buying something, filling out a form, or clicking on a link. A high bounce rate means that when a visitor comes to your website their visit is short, if your bounce rate is low, visitors will spend more time on various pages and click available links. The average bounce rate is between 26% and 70%. The optimal range is between 26% and 40% but this will vary between industries. Attracting the right users to your website through SEO, prioritising your user experience and speeding up page load time are just some of the ways that you can improve your bounce rate.
The average bounce rate is somewhere between 26% and 70%, with the optimal range being between 26% and 40% (Hubspot).
Slow Page Load Speed
We’re an impatient lot really and we expect things to be ready exactly when we want them. A few seconds really can make a massive difference! The difference in conversion rate between really fast sites and modestly quick sites is astounding. For B2B, a site that loads in 1 second has a conversion rate 3x higher than a site that loads in 5 seconds and a conversion rate 5x higher than a site that loads in 10 seconds. For B2C eCommerce sites The difference in e-commerce conversion rate between blazing fast sites and modestly quick sites is sizable. A site that loads in 1 second has an e-commerce conversion rate 2.5x higher than a site that loads in 5 seconds.
It’s quite simple really- optimise your webpage load time and your user experience will improve leading to happier visitors, better conversion rates and 🤞higher sales revenue.

Your brand has advanced but your site hasn’t
Just as your employees are representatives of your brand, so too is your website. For a brand to be successful, it needs to be constantly evolving and offering an enhanced user experience. Your website must follow suit. Content and visuals need to be constantly updated and reflect recent trends. Similarly, if you’ve recently rebranded, your site needs a similar refresh.
It’s difficult to navigate
Yes we do want to provide a number of product or service options that cater to a variety of customers, but no we don’t want to overwhelm our users! There is such a thing as too many choices and providing your user with multiple options can be detrimental to their user experience. Simple is often best and visitors to your site should intuitively know where to go to find more information about your products and services. Too many options? Yes you’ve guessed right, here comes that bounce rate we mentioned earlier. It takes about 50 milliseconds (that’s 0.05 seconds) for users to form an opinion about your website that determines whether they like your site or not, whether they’ll stay or leave. Give them too many options and you can probably wave goodbye.
Conversion rates are low
If your site isn’t converting, you have a problem. Confusing navigation, high bounce rates, infrequent website updates….we could go on for a while. Our advice, find the issue and fix it! Globally, in April 2022 the share of website visits was 58.03% on mobile devices, 39.5% on desktop and 2.46% on tablets. Therefore, optimising mobile conversion rate can have a double effect on your revenue and you should focus on taking needed actions for mobile conversion optimisation as well as desktop.
Your site’s been in the company longer than most of the staff
Don’t recognise most of the people in the ‘Our Team’ section? Wondering who chose that homepage font and the questionable colour combinations? There are telltale signs that your site needs a refresh and they aren’t all technical. You may not recognise all the staff bios but do yourself a favour and recognise the need for an update. 75% of consumers admit to making judgements on a company’s credibility based on the company’s website design so making sure it’s relevant and updated is essential. It will also help increase your brand exposure, improve SEO rankings, keep your customers informed about your products and improve the overall user experience.
